The flamingo is often associated with the phrase "phoenix from the ashes", which describes a new beginning after a great defeat. Once a symbol of resurrection, it later decorated the gardens of American working families as a plastic figure. Today the flamingo is celebrated as an icon of trash.

The Leipzig-based artist duo Doppeldenk are experts in getting to the bottom of paradoxes in contemporary life. When choosing the motif for their work "Flamingo", they were certainly aware that the firebirds in the wild often fly towards the sunset.
