Snyder

My works are a play with order and dissolution. I draw on elements of order from the built world - railroad signs, walls, trains - and allow them to blur under flowing lines and color gradients. Structures give way to a new, organic movement, as if the rigid becomes fluid. The inspiration for this lies in chromatic aberration - a physical color error that has become deeply engrained in our visual perception through digital and analogue imaging processes. I use this effect like a kind of melting process: blurring occurs at the color fringes, the original object dissolves layer by layer and the previously unknown is brought out. This creates moments in which our familiar visual world is shaken - as if another, undreamt-of depth is revealed behind the surface. It is this fine line between the familiar and change, between control and dissolution, that characterizes my works - an intermediate space in which the eye pauses for a moment.
