Andrew Hem Andrew Hem was born while his parents were fleeing Cambodia and he grew up in Los Angeles. Those atrocities that were perpetrated by the Khmer Rouge in his family's homeland shape his artistic work, just as much as the Californian city life. In addition to his murals in public spaces, Hem is internationally known for his figurative paintings. In an extraordinary use of color, sometimes appearing in twilight, people can be seen in puzzling settings. By playing with different proportions and bringing together the known and the unknown, his paintings themselves draw us into those dreamscapes.
