Nico Sawatzki

Nico Sawatzki's paintings create a dialogue between condensation and dissolution. Using spray paint and acrylic glaze, he creates a pictorial surface on which the boundaries between depth and surface become blurred. At first, a landscape can often be surmised, which in the next moment transforms into a kind of atmosphere of light or a transient feeling. This dynamic raises the question: What constitutes a landscape when it is reduced to its essential elements? And what role do temporality and the expansion of immaterial spheres play in this?

By consciously including invisible gaps, Sawatzki encourages us to reflect on artistic practice itself: The mental space created both while creating and viewing art is never constant. Just as with natural cycles, there is no standstill here, but rather subtle impulses and intermediate acts that make wondrous sense as a whole.

Nico Sawatzki lives and works in Regensburg and has been active as an artist since 2012. Since then, his works have been shown in numerous solo and group exhibitions in Germany, Luxembourg, the USA, South Korea and Canada. They are also part of several private collections and have been honored with the City of Regensburg's Cultural Promotion Prize.
