Jakobus Durstewitz

Jakobus Durstewitz creates a dialectic of calm and movement in his exhibition "Strom". Known for his paintings of harbors, which show the waters in the metropolitan area of Hamburg as industrialized transshipment points, this time the artist went in search of motifs in the light of dusk. While industry now pauses, nature seems in permanent flux in the form of cloud and water movements. Durstewitz's paintings thus take on a peculiar temporality, which is further intensified by the twilight depicted: The painted, electric light of the lantern lamps almost shines on us viewers. The strength of the colors we see in the daylight reverberates in us as a quiet memory.
