Maya Hayuk
Maya Hayuk is a Ukrainian-American artist born and raised in Baltimore with an extensive background in a wide range of generative art and social practices in the studio and with architecture seen on every continent but Antarctica.
Her iconic improvised murals speak to the artist’s obsession with symmetry, “perfect imperfection,” puzzles and outer / inner space as they conjure woven, knit and embroidered handiwork re-proportioned to a massive scale.
Her works look to expand consciousness and perception to find patterns and interconnectivity. Ultimately, the traditional and the contemporary blend into new harmonic, dissonant, optimistic, experimental compositions. Hayuk considers her studio painting, printmaking and mural practices as inversely relational and symbiotic.
