Levalet

Charles Leval (b. 1988, Épinal), better known by his artist name Levalet, grew up in Guadeloupe, where he first encountered urban culture and the visual arts. He later studied Visual Arts in Strasbourg, where his early practice focused largely on video while also being deeply influenced by his involvement in theatre. In 2012, he earned the prestigious French teaching qualification (Agrégation), the same year he began installing his works in the streets of Paris and beyond. From 2013 onwards, he started exhibiting in galleries and participating in international art events.

Levalet's work is fundamentally rooted in drawing and installation. His ink-drawn figures are carefully placed within public spaces, where they engage in a visual and conceptual dialogue with their surroundings. Architecture becomes an integral part of each composition, as his characters interact with façades, walls, and urban structures in scenes that often border on the absurd. Through subtle humour and keen observation, Levalet transforms ordinary city environments into poetic, surprising, and thought-provoking narratives.
