Anders Gjennestad

Anders Gjennestad aka Strøk (b.1980, NO) is an urban artist who is living in Berlin. Like many artists of his generation, Gjennestad began painting on the streets in the late 90s. During the first years, his practice focused on the streets and abandoned spaces around Bergen (NO), later Berlin (DE), where he signed with Strøk. He gained recognition for his handcut multi-layered stencils which are based on his own photography. Intricate, detailed images, leveraging elevated angles figures, casting long shadows, became a trademark style of his. He developed an oeuvre of contrasts, where powerful and supple yet delicate characters juxtapose the rawness of the urban surrounding.
