Mathieu LUCAS

Mathieu Lucas creates miniature stages that form a synthesis of sculpture, painting, graphics and narrative. They show minimalist, poetic scenes from a bird's eye view. Using resin, plastic, paint and 3D printing, Lucas creates sad and beautiful creations that reflect the fragility of us humans and our planet: Marine pollution, species extinction, global warming, genetic manipulation, or wars are just a few examples. Despite these immensely complex and difficult themes, Lucas succeeds in ensuring that we, as viewers of his art, do not remain in a state of gloom. The artistic change of perspective allows us to look beyond the scientific facts, which nevertheless reflects reality and raises the question: What influence do humans have on this?

In his works, a faceless figure in a jumpsuit appears again and again, inviting us as viewers to either identify with it or distance ourselves from it. In both cases, however, we have become witnesses of something that we may never really understand.
