Florian Eymann
Second Skin
Florian Eymann creates a pictorial ambivalence that deconstructs artificially created ideals. His works bear witness to the morbidity of our ideals of beauty and explore the boundaries between artistic genres.
In recent years, the French artist has taken up two baroque genres: The portrait and the still life. Eyman coded faces and objects through abstraction, which sometimes appeared grotesque and distorted. In his current exhibition ‘Second Skin’, he now goes one step further and places the background in the foreground. Everything that is object-like now seems to be superimposed by pure surface and pattern, dissolving into pure colour. The shown paintings now challenge us even more radically to rediscover the dissolved forms and figures.
Eymann's bizarrely expressive pictorial spaces have been attracting international attention for a decade now. In addition to solo and group exhibitions in Copenhagen, Belgium, London and New York, Eymann has taken part in numerous exhibitions in Miami and Basel, among others. In Germany, Eymann is represented solely by the Affenfaust Galerie.
