Kevin Simion
The Hamburg artist Kevin Simion fascinates with his photo-realistic black and white drawings. With an incredible richness of detail and an enormous depth of field, he depicts things from nature and technology as well as cultural objects, portraits or comic figures. The artist uses various pencils in different shades of gray and drawing paper. Looking at them raises questions about our current understanding of images: What is truth and what is appearance? And are these two categories still relevant at all in view of Simion's art? In some cases, the drawn object brings another level to this thought experiment, such as when a tape measure appears deceptively real due to the depth illusion depicted, thus simultaneously reducing its sole meaning and purpose to absurdity.
