Gregor Gaida

Gregor Gaida, born in 1975 in Chorzów, Poland, now lives and works in Bremen. His training began with an apprenticeship as a wood sculptor in Flensburg, followed by studies in fine art at the University of the Arts Bremen under Bernd Altenstein and Karin Kneffel. Gaida's sculptures are characterized by a fascinating combination of organic and geometric forms. He uses different materials such as aluminum, wood and polyester resin to create works that are both powerful and fragile. One outstanding example is his sculpture Polygonal Horse II, which can be seen on the “Purple Path” sculpture trail as part of the Capital of Culture Chemnitz 2025. The work thematizes the symbolism of the horse for strength, superiority and viral power, taking it ad absurdum and at the same time humorously breaking with the tradition of the equestrian monument Gaida's works have been exhibited internationally, including in the Berlin Cathedral and in various museums and galleries. His sculptures invite viewers to reflect on the relationship between humans, animals and technology and to explore the boundaries between reality and abstraction.
