Dirk „Diok“ Jung

Dirk Jung has been on the road as DIOK since 1994. It all began in the Saxon province and led him via Darmstadt to Hamburg. He has lived and worked there for almost 20 years. Always a graffiti artist at heart, he is actively involved in style writing and is constantly developing his style. Whether on canvas with spray cans, markers and brushes, as a 3D model made of cardboard or on the wall as a mech formation, DIOK uses different techniques to realize his style. In addition, he still combines graphic work on the computer with conventional painting techniques in free projects, such as “MEDIUM.INC” and the animal portraits in “Status D”. In the “Nachtlichter” series, the artist shows his fascination for the interplay between abstraction and clarity. He portrays banal, nocturnal scenes and shows them in an abstract blur. In doing so, he strips the painted location of its clarity, defocusing and generalizing it. The concrete picture titles give the scenes and places in the works a clear definition. The viewer is invited to find the concrete title in the abstract picture. DIOK photographs his motifs on night-time walks and edits them on the computer. He then cuts individual templates for each motif to create a unique piece from each picture. He also uses prefabricated form templates. These shapes can be found in all the pictures, thus creating a uniform series. The paint is applied exclusively with a spray can. He mainly works with transparent colors. So far, the surfaces have been thick paper, canvas and wooden panels.
