Corinne von Lebusa

Corinne von Lebusa is very open-minded in her paintings, collages and drawings. With her subjective mysticism, she creates for us the wonderful world of a private cosmos. The lightness and fleetingness of seemingly banal thoughts cleverly conceal the fractures in the ensemble. The artist's pictures assign us the role of voyeurs, as if we were looking at something unauthorized. The question arises, is it something outrageous, am I allowed to look at it with my children? The answer comes from the cheerful innocence that the images radiate. The eye is tempted to roam over the beauty of their well-composed arrangements in the pleasing colors of the pictures. It wanders here and there, is delighted by the painter's wonderfully noble thoughts, the heart opens up due to the joy of life and the joyful affirmation of Eros and sensuality in dealing with the opposite sex, i.e. about relationships between men and women in a complexity that we would probably all like to have a little more of. The tenderness and affection that come to us from Corinne von Lebusa's works encourage us to take a lively and uncluttered look at all-too-human situations. Suddenly the eye gets caught in a comfortable glide over the surface of the picture, a small degree rises in the corner of the eye that hurts. A missing nose, red tears, a face consisting only of eyes, black skin, a perfect breast, half covered up. Brightness, luminosity and liveliness are countered by darkness and formal irritations, lending Corinne von Lebusa's works a surprising profundity. Severed limbs, strange accidents slow us down, make us search for a resonance to a message. Is it necessary to find an answer to everything, or do we allow ourselves to be infected by the weightlessness of her pictures? The artist leaves the decision up to us. We suddenly find ourselves smiling, unintentionally cheerful despite or even in spite of seemingly tragic situations that are presented to us in a subtle way. Corinne von Lebusa develops a wonderful sense of humor in her pictures. This subtle wit amuses us without pointing a finger and easily manages to elicit the smile of the day. It is the gentle, enigmatic feminine smile of a sphinx that is born here. We surrender to the hopelessness of capturing, explaining, cataloging or archiving it. Neither pigeonholes nor categories can be found for the images and humor in Corinne von Lebusa's work. What a pleasure it is to see an obviously figurative, i.e. real world that is completely unreal. Into this unreality we are given the opportunity to mirror our own being. Here the artist offers a creative sphere where philosophy, artificiality, reality, femininity and research can create something new in a chymical union. The artist uses watercolor, oil paints, drawing pencils, various inks and varnishes to create her oeuvre. Corinne von Lebusa uses Finnish cardboard as a painting surface, which partially absorbs the painting material, resulting in a soft, tactile impression. Rosa Loy
