Stephan Hohenthanner

Hohenthanner's art is characterized by an intensive examination of contemporary historical themes and traditional questions of painting. His conceptual ideas and precise approach to painting determine his pictorial surfaces and bodies. Using sophisticated manual processes, he creates multi-layered works, mostly on wood, which are convincing in their formal quality and depth of content thanks to careful planning and adept handling of color and form. The final realization of these well thought-out works is preceded by a phase of in-depth research and numerous preliminary studies. During this phase, Hohenthanner constantly seeks to expand the possibilities of the medium, gathers new insights and acquires new skills.

Stephan Hohenthanner studied painting at the HAW Hamburg under Prof. Christian Hahn. His works have already been shown in numerous exhibitions and have attracted increasing attention, especially in recent years. In 2021 he was shown together with important international positions at salondergegenwart and won first place in the Elysée Prize for Painting in 2022 and the City Art Prize Hamburg of the Carolina d'Amico Foundation in 2023.
