Käpten Nobbi

Born in 1990 in Stolberg, Käpten Nobbi now lives and works as an independent artist in Aachen, Germany. After training as a light and signage manufacturer and completing a design-focused vocational diploma, he went on to study Craft Design at the Akademie Gut Rosenberg of the Chamber of Crafts in Aachen. Since 2017, he has been working full-time as an artist. True to his motto, “Don’t throw it away – there’s still something you can do with it,” Käpten Nobbi sources his materials from recycling centers, construction site containers, bulky waste, and everyday objects. Items others discard become the foundation for unique works full of charm, humor, and craftsmanship. Each piece of wood, each milk carton or scrap of plastic has its own story – and becomes the starting point for paintings, sculptures, or functional objects. Many of his works serve a dual purpose: not only do they function as art, but often as lamps or other usable items, always retaining their visual appeal. His background in signage and lighting design plays a key role in his creative process, as does his playful approach to materials and meaning. Käpten Nobbi’s work doesn’t take itself too seriously – instead, it invites viewers to discover beauty, wit, and life in what is often overlooked.
