Thomas Heinlein

Thomas Heinlein (b. 1978), a native of Schleswig-Holstein, began drawing the objects of his fascination at the age of four: sneakers and cars in every imaginable variation. Using a ballpoint pen, he captured their shapes and details with remarkable precision—"folder after folder," as Heinlein himself recalls.

This early passion evolved into a dedication to large-scale acrylic painting. The expressive visual language of his childhood continues to shape his work today and remains a defining element throughout his diverse artistic practice.

Heinlein moves effortlessly between abstraction and figuration—an "either-or" has never existed for him. At times he creates rigorously geometric compositions, allowing paint to flow across the canvas, building layer upon layer and line upon line into vibrant explosions of colour. At other times he turns to representational subjects such as the Port of Hamburg at night, where ships, containers, and shimmering reflections create a compelling atmosphere. While his technique recalls the French Pointillists, his dynamic brushwork and bold use of colour firmly place his paintings in the present.
