Roy Lichtenstein

Roy Lichtenstein (1923–1997) was an American artist and one of the leading figures of Pop Art. He gained international fame in the 1960s with large-scale paintings that imitated comic strips and advertising imagery. His work is characterized by bold outlines, primary colors, and the use of Ben-Day dots to mimic mass-printing techniques. Iconic pieces such as Whaam! and Drowning Girl positioned him as a key voice in the dialogue between fine art and popular culture. Beyond painting, he also worked in sculpture, prints, and murals. Lichtenstein’s art continues to shape our understanding of visual language, reproduction, and creativity in the age of mass media.
