Patrick Vogel
Street art gives you a second. If someone walks past, the image is gone. High-tech gives you all the time in the world and endless decisions—often without any real consequences. Vogel works somewhere in between.
Spray can, render engine, brush, code. Digital or analogue—it doesn't matter. The tool is not the point. The point is what happens when a hand that has to move fast meets a machine that is never finished.
He works in series, often on several at once—all too fast. Build, tear down, start again. Not as a principle, but because standing still simply isn't an option. Whatever remains has survived. The rest becomes material for the next piece.
His images never stand still. They feel as if they have been frozen in the middle of a movement, just before transforming into something else. Mistakes remain visible. Most of the time, they are the best part.
For fifteen years, he created images that had to work. Now he creates images that don't have to.
