Marina Rønnow Honoré

Press text: Marina Rønnow Honoré is a visual artist from Copenhagen, working in the space between the playful freedom of childhood and the responsibilities of adulthood. She uses plastic beads as her primary medium. Under the artist name Pro_Perleprinter (a combination of "pro," referring to the fast-paced, high-tech world we live in, "perle" means "bead" in Danish and "printer," emphasizing the machine-like process behind her work), she explores themes of technology, childhood, and the digital world. Marina explores how we perceive the world in an age where we are constantly bombarded with images, and what it feels like to navigate a reality that is both saturated with technology and easy to get lost in. Her works are based on AI-generated images, found photographs, and screenshots, which she transforms into pixelated compositions through a slow, analog process. Each plastic bead represents a single color, and up close, the works almost appear as a collection of color blotches. But when you step back, the beads come together to form a photorealistic image, where every color and every bead plays an essential role in recreating the whole. This deliberate, painstaking process stands in stark contrast to the fast-paced world we live in today, inviting the viewer to pause and reflect. The motifs in her works are inspired by everyday plastic objects and digital impressions – such as artificial plants or images from social media. There is a sense of melancholy in her images, capturing the feeling of searching for something deeper and more meaningful in a world where we often end up focusing on appearances. Marina Rønnow Honoré invites the viewer to step into a world where childhood fantasy meets the complexities of adulthood, and where the plastic beads represent both something harmless and something we can’t always avoid confronting.
