At the end of a quiet street in East Berlin, the artist duo known as coarse brings sculptural daydreams to life.

Mark Landwehr and Sven Waschk pour hundreds of hours into their creations, which tell lyrical stories about aging, longing, loneliness, and the search for companionship. In their body of work visual simplicity is fused with a distinctive flawlessness and a soft sense of humor undercuts a soulful melancholy, giving rise to multi-faceted sculptures that incite contemplation about the nature of our relationships and our lives.

As leaders in the designer toy movement for more than twenty years it is the duo’s original sculptures that have launched them onto the world stage, leading to collaborations with the likes of Mattel, Warner Bros., Tim Raue, Richard Mille for Pharrell Williams, Diesel, Vans, and Ikea. In recent years their sculptures have sold for six-figure sums as collectors continue be drawn into their work, which looks impossibly made, as if it has emerged from a different reality.
